Legal Aid’s leadership in developing and managing Kids in School Rule!, a program to support education success for students in foster care in Hamilton County is highlighted in this article.
“Kudos to Hamilton County which is well ahead of the curve in prioritizing education stability and success for youth in care,” remarked Legal Aid Society of Southwest Ohio, LLC Managing Attorney for Children and Education Elaine Fink. “The success of Kids in School Rule! has required dedicated leaders and staff within HCJFS, Juvenile Court and Cincinnati Public Schools in partnership with Legal Aid, and the commitment to use data to drive decisions to improve the lives and education outcomes of children in care.”
Legal Aid‘s work assisting individual students and our advocacy on the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) were additional focal points of the article. Legal Aid Society of Southwest Ohio, LLC Senior Attorney Stephanie Moes, who represented one of the students featured in the article, commented “Children in foster care need all of us to pay attention to their education issues. For all children, education achievement is important for future success. For children in foster care with few family supports, education success is a necessity.” http://www.cincinnati.com/story/news/politics/2017/05/24/when-foster-kids-moved-around-schooling-becomes-afterthought/338912001/
